Coniteassa tehdään runsaasti vapaaehtoistyötä. Suurin osa conitean työstä ei näy tapahtumakävijöille juurikaan, joten tässä artikkelisarjassa avataan coniteatyötä. Vaikka Ropecon tapahtumana vaatii runsaan työpanoksen conitean jäseniltä ja vapaaehtoisilta, itse tapahtuman ulkopuolella tehdään huomattava määrä vapaaehtoistyötä. Yksi selkeä esimerkki tätä on Ropeconin talviseminaari. Ropecon kasvaa tapahtumana joka vuosi ja tapahtuman tarpeet myös laajenevat ja monipuolistuvat. Sen vuoksi myös coniteaan perustetaan uusia vastuualuita ja coniteakin on kasvanut suureksi joukoksi tekijöitä. Koko conitea kokoontuu vain harvoin ja siksi on tärkeää saada mahdollisuuksia tavata muita conitean jäseniä oman vastuualueen ulkopuolelta.

Mikä viikonloppuseminaari?
Joskus vapaaehtoistyö niin isossa tapahtumassa kuin Ropecon voi tuntua yksinäiseltä. Siksi on tärkeää, että conitealla on mahdollisuus tavata kasvokkain tapahtuman ulkopuolella ja suunnitella asioita yhdessä isommalla joukolla. Ropeconin talviseminaari tarjoaa mahdollisuuden yhdistää kasvoja nettinicceihin ja ryhmäytyä ihan eri tavalla kuin verkossa tapahtuvassa coniteatyössä. Kaikki kynnelle kykenevät coniitit kokoontuvat talviseminaariin käymään läpi tapahtuman yleisiä linjauksia, lisäksi seminaarissa käsitellään asioita kuten tapahtumaturvallisuutta ja vapaaehtoistyöntekijöiden jaksamista.
Seminaarissa käydään läpi Ropeconin budjettia ja tapahtuman tilakarttaa, sekä tapahtuman kävijöiden kannalta kiinnostavinta aihetta, eli tapahtuman kunniavieraiden valintaa. Conitea äänesti tulevan tapahtuman kunniavieraita ja jännitys tiivistyy kevään aikana, kun tapahtuman kunniavieraiden henkilöllisyydet vahvistuvat. Kerromme kunniavieraista lisää myöhemmin keväällä sekä Ropeconin somessa, että blogissa, heti kun tieto on varmaa. Jotta tiedon kunniavieraista saa mahdollisimman pian kannattaa seurata Ropeconin somekanavia tiiviisti.
Talviseminaari ei ole pelkästään päätöksentekoa ja tapahtumasuunnittelua, vaan tapahtumantekijöiden tutustuminen on siellä tärkeää. Conitean jäsenten tunteminen helpottaa vapaaehtoistyötä. On paljon helpompaa tehdä yhteistyötä eri osa-alueiden välillä, jos tietää kuka tekee mitä. Seminaarissa saattaa myös syntyä idea, jos toinenkin siitä mitä tulevassa Ropeconissa voisi olla hienoa toteuttaa. Joskus on myös tärkeää puhua jostain ihan muusta ja tutustua uusiin ihmisiin yhteisen harrastuksen puitteissa.

Ropeconin talviseminaarikaan ei olisi mahdollinen ilman vapaaehtoisia
Jotta conitea voi tehdä viikonlopun verran aivotyötä ja tärkeitä päätöksiä he tarvitsevat ruokaa ja siitä huolehtivat tänäkin vuonna keittiön vapaaehtoiset, jotka taikoivat koko viikonlopun ajan maittavaa ruokaa ja leipoivat 120 pullaa. Kiitoksia keittiölle jälleen kerran hyvästä ruuasta, jota oli enemmän kuin riittävästi. Seminaarityö olikin erinomaisen hauskaa päättää laskiaispullatyöpajaan.
Sunnuntaina seminaarista lähdettiin kotia kohti kokemuksen rikkaampana ja uusien tuttavuuksien siivittämänä. Siksi tuntuukin varsin sopivalta julkaista tämä teksti nimenomaan ystävänpäivänä.

What Does the Conitea Do Part 1 Ropecon’s Winter Seminar
Ropecon requires a large amount of volunteer work. Most o the work the conitea does doen’t show to the average con goer, so this article series will give a peek into what goes into working in the conitea. The event itself requires a lot of time and effort from conitea members and Ropecon volunteers alike, a lot of volunteer work occurs outside of Ropecon as well. A good example of the work outside of the event itself is the Ropecon Winter Seminar. Ropecon expands every year as an event with a larger amount of visitors. Therefore, the conitea as gtown as well to meet the requirements of the event. Conitea as a whole meet only rarely and that is why it is important to meet with members of conitea, who you wouldn’t otherwise meet.
What is the Weekend Seminar?
Volunteer work can be lonely, especially in such a big event as Ropecon. It is very important for members of the conitea to meet face to face and plan things together as a bigger group. The Winter seminar offers a rare chance in conitea work or just that. The seminar offers a platform for members of the conitea to connect faces to usernames and friendly networking. All members of the conitea who are able to come to the seminar, do so. The seminar includers working on broader decisions, such as the budget for the event, the practicalities of the layout of the event, as well as safety at the event and the general wellbeing of the volunteers.
The most interesting part for Ropecon goers is of course the guests of honor for Ropecon 2024. The conitea voted on who the guests of honor will be for the upcoming event. More information on the identities of the guests will be updated in Ropecon’s social media platforms once something is confirmed. The winter seminar is not only about decision making and planning, but friendly low threshold networking is important too. Getting to know the other members of the conitea is important for the success of volunteer work. It is much simpler to collaborate and work together if you know who does what in the conitea. The seminar may produce great ideas on what the next Ropecon may include. Sometimes it is also important to talk about something else and make new friends with new people through a shared hobby.
Ropecon’s Winter seminar would not be possible without volunteers
The conitea needs food to be able make decisions and work. That is where the kitchen volunteers come in. They worked tirelessly all weekend to feed the conitea members with tasty lunch and dinner. They also baked 120 buns! So many thanks again to the exceptional kitchen volunteers! The food was tasty and there was more than enough of it. The seminar ended with a filled bun workshop, in Finnish laskiaispulla.
The seminar ended on Sunday and this seminar participant armed with new experiences and friendships. Therefore it feels apt to publish this text on Friendship day, which is the Finnish equivalent of Valentine’s day, however with an emphasis on friendships over romantic relationships.
